Abdominal Etching Q & A

by Tarik M. Husain, MD, FACS

What is abdominal etching?

Abdominal etching is a type of liposculpture that enhances muscle definition with liposuction. To sculpt your abs into a six-pack, Dr. Husain removes fat from predetermined areas of your abdomen to accentuate the hard-earned muscle underneath.

How does abdominal etching work?

Dr. Husain first marks your abs in designated sculpting areas. While you’re under anesthesia, he makes tiny incisions either through your belly button or in the folds of your skin and inserts a flexible cannula that removes the fat. After removing your fat, your skin tightens around the muscle to accentuate your six-pack.

The entire procedure takes about an hour. As an expert in the art of abdominal etching and a surgeon who pays close attention to detail, Dr. Husain ensures his patients leave his office with perfectly sculpted abs and little to no scarring at the incision sites.

Who is a good candidate for abdominal etching?

Abdominal etching works best for men and women who are physically fit. This isn’t a weight loss method; the purpose of abdominal etching is to enhance and show off all the hard work that comes from regular exercise and a healthy diet.

To determine whether you’re a candidate for abdominal etching, Dr. Husain performs a physical examination and discusses your habits and health goals. Ideally, you should have less than two centimeters of pinchable fat in the abdominal region.

What can I expect after an abdominal etching procedure?

It can take up to six months to see the results of your abdominal etching. Immediately following surgery, your abdominal area may be swollen and bruised. To prevent injury, Dr. Husain recommends limiting heavy lifting and rigorous workouts for about three weeks.

To control pain and assist with healing, Dr. Husain recommends that you wear a compression garment for the first 3-6 weeks following surgery. To benefit from the procedure, you need to follow a healthy diet and exercise routine after you’ve healed.

If you’re struggling to get your six-pack abs despite putting in maximum effort, call Dr. Husain’s office for a consultation or use the convenient online booking tool.
